Community leaders and civil society groups in northern Nigeria have criticized the growing focus on 2027 political campaigns despite ongoing security challenges that have claimed thousands of lives. Reports indicate that more than 4654 people were killed in violent incidents across the region in 2025, including bandit attacks, communal clashes, and insurgent activities.
Critics argue that political actors should prioritize safety, economic recovery, and humanitarian support over early election positioning. Many communities continue to face displacement, school closures, and disrupted farming activities, deepening poverty and food insecurity.
- Security analysts say sustained investment in intelligence gathering, local policing, and community based conflict resolution is needed. They warn that without stabilizing affected regions, political rhetoric about future elections may ring hollow to citizens struggling with daily survival.
