The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed reports alleging plans to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

Addressing journalists in Kano on Saturday, the spokesperson to the Speaker of the House, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said there is no motion, discussion or initiative before the Assembly seeking the removal of the deputy governor. He maintained that the reports circulating in sections of the media were designed to create unnecessary tension within the state’s political landscape.

“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the deputy governor,” Shawai stated. “These reports are false and should be disregarded by the public. The deputy governor continues to serve in his capacity with full support from the House.”

He urged journalists and members of the public to verify information before dissemination, stressing that responsible reporting is critical to maintaining political stability and public confidence in governance.

According to Shawai, the Assembly remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities, including lawmaking and oversight, rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres.

“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours,” he added.

Deputy Governor Gwarzo has yet to publicly respond to the impeachment speculation. However, sources within the state government indicated that he remains active in official duties and government engagements.

The rumours surfaced days after the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, reportedly called on the deputy governor to resign for failing to follow his principal in defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
