A judicial commission of inquiry established by the Sokoto State Government has submitted a comprehensive report alleging that over ₦117 billion was misappropriated during the eight-year administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. The report cites breaches of due process, violations of extant procurement laws, weak financial oversight mechanisms, and abuse of executive authority.

The document was formally presented on Tuesday to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto at the Government House, marking a pivotal development in the state’s accountability and governance reform efforts. The submission has intensified public discourse on transparency, fiscal discipline, and anti-corruption measures in public office.

Presenting the findings, Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), stated that the inquiry was constituted in accordance with constitutional provisions to examine the conduct of the previous administration through documentary evidence and sworn testimonies. According to him, the commission uncovered widespread financial irregularities totaling more than ₦117 billion, largely attributed to non-compliance with procurement regulations and systemic lapses in financial controls.

Justice Pindiga explained that the report is structured into five principal sections: the background and legal framework of the inquiry, evidence and testimonies received, detailed findings, recommendations, and a concluding summary designed to guide executive action. He noted that the commission meticulously reviewed contracts, financial statements, and official records, while also receiving submissions from ministries, departments, agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.

Commending members of the commission for their diligence and impartiality, he emphasized that the assignment was executed without fear or favour. Receiving the report, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto expressed appreciation for the commission’s work, assuring that the government would carefully review its recommendations in the interest of accountability and prudent resource management.
