The New Nigeria Peoples Party has dismissed claims that its national leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso held a secret meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party officials described the reports as false and politically motivated saying they are aimed at creating confusion within the opposition and weakening party structures.
In a statement issued by NNPP spokespersons the party insisted that Kwankwaso remains committed to the ideals and programs of the NNPP. The statement stressed that there has been no meeting negotiation or discussion between Kwankwaso and representatives of the ruling party. According to the party the rumours are part of a wider pattern of misinformation often seen as election cycles approach.
Political observers note that Kwankwaso remains a significant figure in northern politics and speculation about his political future frequently surfaces in national discourse. NNPP leaders however said their focus is on strengthening grassroots mobilization and preparing for upcoming elections rather than responding to unfounded claims.
Supporters of the party in Kano and other states also rejected the defection story describing it as an attempt to distract from policy discussions. They emphasized that internal party consultations are ongoing to expand membership and refine campaign strategies.
