The Presidency has disclosed details of President Bola Tinubu’s bilateral meeting with the Turkish government, stressing that Nigeria’s relationship with Turkey is focused on concrete outcomes rather than mere agreements.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview with Arise Television in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said President Tinubu is deeply committed to ensuring that all bilateral engagements translate into measurable results.

According to Bwala, the President emphasized the need to create economic opportunities for Nigerians while also strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism. He noted that Tinubu made it clear that discussions must go beyond ceremonial signings and instead be tied to specific timelines and deliverables.

“The President asked how we can create economic opportunities and deal with terrorism in a timely manner. For him, it is not enough to sign papers; what matters are timelines and deliverables,” Bwala said.

He explained that this approach dominated the bilateral talks between both countries, particularly in key sectors such as defence, security, higher education, science and technology, and intelligence exchange. Bwala noted that the discussions reflected a shared understanding between Nigeria and Turkey on the urgency of implementation.

The presidential aide further stated that Nigeria finds it easier to engage with countries that demonstrate genuine interest in investment and long-term cooperation. He pointed out that Nigeria and Turkey have enjoyed strong economic relations over the years, with significant investments flowing between both nations.

Bwala added that Turkish investors and the government have consistently shown commitment to doing business in Nigeria, describing the relationship as proactive and mutually beneficial.

As Nigeria seeks to deepen its collaboration with Turkey, he said the emphasis remains on agreements that can be implemented almost immediately, ensuring that citizens of both countries can see tangible results.

He concluded that the Tinubu administration is determined to pursue partnerships that deliver visible economic and security benefits to Nigerians.
