The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has exposed a fake party membership card in circulation, describing it as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s image.

The State APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Monday. He explained that the forged card had been doctored to include an edited photograph of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, making it appear as though he was a registered APC member.

According to Idris, the fake card was created by mischievous elements dissatisfied with the smooth and coordinated e-registration of party members in Zamfara. He pointed out that the forgery is easily detectable, citing errors such as the emboldened “26” on the date, which is meant for Niger State, while Zamfara’s registration code is “36.”

“No person can be duly registered without a National Identification Number, which Turji does not possess,” Idris noted, emphasizing that the efforts of the forgers are futile. He added that proper registration requires submission of complete personal information to the National Identity Management Commission, and it is impossible for an individual in military uniform carrying a gun to be captured as a registered member.

Idris further stated that preliminary investigations have linked the forged card to Babangida Aliyu, who was recently suspended from participating in the ongoing e-registration programme due to dubious conduct. The forged card first appeared on his Facebook page.

The APC in Zamfara has urged citizens to disregard the fraudulent card bearing registration number ID: APC 261113000102. The party has also reported the matter to security agencies, assuring that the perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

The APC e-registration coordination in Zamfara and the state chapter completely distance themselves from this forgery, Idris said, reaffirming the party’s commitment to a transparent and credible registration process.
