Anxiety has continued to grip residents of Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State as 166 church worshippers abducted by bandits remain in captivity one week after the incident.
The victims, including children as young as five years old, women and elderly men, were kidnapped during church services on Sunday, January 18, 2026. A total of 177 worshippers were abducted during the attack, but 11 later escaped and returned to the community with injuries and signs of trauma.
Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSW-N) has expressed concern over the continued captivity of the victims, describing their condition as distressing and life-threatening. The organisation said the abductees were being forced to sleep in the open without adequate food or medical care.
The Chief Executive Officer of CSW-N, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, said the delay in rescuing the worshippers had worsened the trauma of their families and eroded public confidence.
Governor Uba Sani has visited the community, while security personnel have been deployed to the area. However, residents remain fearful and continue to hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
