Silence has continued to surround the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge project in Lagos as the preferred bidder has failed to commence construction three years after being announced.

The project, which was expected to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity, has remained at the planning stage with no visible work on site.

Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the delay, noting that traffic conditions in Lagos have continued to worsen. Many say the bridge was widely promoted as a long-term solution to gridlock.

Officials have attributed the delay to financing, technical reviews, and project restructuring. However, critics argue that the lack of clear communication has eroded public confidence.

Urban planners warn that prolonged delays could increase project costs and reduce its eventual impact. They have called for transparency and a realistic timeline.

As of now, neither the state government nor the preferred bidder has provided a definitive start date, leaving the future of the 4th Mainland Bridge uncertain.
