Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of denying him his constitutional right to fair hearing following his recent arrest and detention.
In a statement released by his legal team, Malami said he was not properly informed of the allegations against him before being taken into custody. He described the action as a violation of due process and the rule of law.
Malami maintained that he has always been willing to cooperate with lawful investigations and questioned the need for what he described as “procedural irregularities.”
The DSS has yet to issue a detailed response to the allegation but has previously stated that its actions are guided by national security considerations and legal frameworks.
Legal experts say the case has reignited debate over the balance between national security enforcement and protection of individual rights. Civil rights groups have called for transparency and adherence to constitutional safeguards.
The matter is expected to move to the courts, where Malami’s legal team says they will challenge the legality of his detention.
