Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani, has insisted that his administration has been transparent over the abduction of residents from Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area, stressing that the government has nothing to hide regarding the incident.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor said his government responded swiftly after the attack by engaging top security officials at the national level. According to him, immediate action was taken to address the situation and coordinate rescue efforts.

“We have nothing to hide about what happened in Kurmin Wali. As soon as the attack occurred, I met with all the heads of security agencies at the national level,” Uba Sani said.

The governor explained that his administration’s priority is the safe return of the abducted residents rather than engaging in disputes over how information about the attack became public. He emphasized that Kaduna State does not politicise security matters and relies heavily on intelligence provided by security agencies.

“In Kaduna, we do not mix security with politics. We depend on information from the security agencies, and we trust them. They are the first people we call when there is trouble, so condemning them helps no one,” he stated.

The attack occurred on Sunday when armed men invaded Kurmin Wali village. Initial reports suggested that more than 170 people may have been abducted, sparking widespread fear and confusion. Although authorities initially questioned the figures, the state government later confirmed that the abduction took place, noting that the exact number of victims is still being verified.

Governor Uba Sani disclosed that he has met with key security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; the Director-General of the DSS; and the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure a coordinated rescue operation.

He reiterated the government’s stance against paying ransom, adding that no demands have been made by the kidnappers so far. The governor urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information and assured families of the abducted victims that the government will continue efforts until all captives are rescued.
