Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed regret over the recurring political crises in the state, while reaffirming that he remains firmly in charge of governance.
The governor spoke at the grand finale of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament, where he served as special guest. He acknowledged that each year of his administration has often begun amid political tension, noting that the early days of 2026 were marked by fresh challenges.
Fubara assured residents that his administration would not support, directly or indirectly, any action capable of threatening peace and security in the state. He stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and pledged to continue delivering on the promises made to the people of Rivers State.
Emphasising his position, the governor stated that despite political distractions, governance remains ongoing and stable. He expressed satisfaction with the successful hosting of the week long polo tournament, describing the incident free event as evidence that Rivers State is safe for residents, visitors and investors.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the tournament reflects the effectiveness of security arrangements across the state. He, however, lamented that political disputes have coincided with the annual polo event for three consecutive years, describing the trend as unfortunate.
Fubara assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to support individuals and organisations committed to the development of the state. He also pledged government support towards upgrading the Port Harcourt Polo Club to enhance its status as one of the country’s leading sporting facilities.
The governor encouraged guests and foreign participants to enjoy the calm atmosphere of Port Harcourt and to help project positive narratives about the state.
