Egypt, seven time African champions, struggled to break down Nigeria’s organised defence despite enjoying spells of possession. The North Africans also failed to capitalise on their chances, allowing the match to drift into penalties.
The bronze medal finish provides some consolation for Nigeria, who showed resilience and character throughout the tournament. It also extends the Super Eagles’ record of podium finishes at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The final of the competition is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Rabat, where Morocco will face Senegal in a highly anticipated showdown.
