The African Democratic Congress has declared that Nigeria can only be rescued from what it described as a deepening governance crisis by removing President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 general election.

The party’s spokesperson, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, made the assertion on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he argued that the current administration had lost the moral and institutional capacity to govern effectively.

According to Abdullahi, the ADC’s political agenda is driven by national survival rather than partisan interest, insisting that Nigeria’s challenges would persist as long as the present government remains in power.

He accused the administration of promoting what he described as a bandit mentality in governance, alleging that public resources were being handled with recklessness and impunity.

Abdullahi also raised concerns over alleged irregularities surrounding recent tax related legislation, claiming that laws already passed by the National Assembly were altered, a development he described as unprecedented in the country’s democratic history.

The former minister further questioned reports that the Federal Government paid nine million dollars to foreign lobbyists in the United States to improve Nigeria’s international image. He demanded transparency on how the contract was awarded, the source of the funds, and the budgetary process involved.

He argued that the expenditure reflected misplaced priorities, stressing that the funds would have been better deployed to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Abdullahi also expressed concern over a reported medical memorandum of understanding between Nigeria and the United States, alleging that its terms grant excessive control to foreign interests despite Nigeria’s larger financial contribution. He said the absence of public disclosure raised serious questions about accountability and national sovereignty.
