The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has dismissed reports suggesting that he deliberately ignored the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, at a recent inter faith programme in Ibadan, describing the claims as a misunderstanding amplified by social media narratives.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday, the monarch said there was no intent to disrespect the Alaafin or any other traditional ruler at the event, stressing that protocol and timing accounted for what occurred.

According to Oba Ladoja, he arrived at the gathering after proceedings had begun and sought to take his seat quietly without disrupting the programme. He explained that the seating arrangement required him to pass through certain sections of the venue, which may have created the wrong impression.

“There was no intention whatsoever to avoid anyone. What happened has been misinterpreted, especially online. I was only trying to take my seat properly,” the Olubadan said.

He noted that his designated seat was located between the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Alaafin of Oyo, adding that movement within the hall became complicated as dignitaries adjusted their positions.

The monarch expressed concern that short video clips circulating online failed to capture the full context of the event, insisting that he exchanged greetings with several dignitaries, including the state governor.

Oba Ladoja also revealed that communication had already taken place to clear any perceived misunderstanding, emphasizing that there was no tension between the traditional institutions involved.

Beyond the controversy, the Olubadan reiterated his commitment to unity and development, urging leaders to focus on education, youth development and issues that promote lasting progress in society
