Nigeria’s Super Eagles are on the brink of another historic moment as they face host nation Morocco in the semi finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night.
The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with kick off scheduled for 9 pm Nigerian time. It will mark the sixth AFCON meeting between both sides, with Morocco holding a slight edge of three wins to Nigeria’s two.
The last time both teams clashed at the tournament was during the group stage of the 2004 edition, where the Atlas Lions edged the Super Eagles 1 0. However, both teams arrive at this stage in impressive form and are regarded as the standout sides of the competition.
Nigeria enter the match as one of the tournament favourites after recording five straight victories. The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals so far, the highest tally at the competition, with Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Raphael Onyedika and Semi Ajayi all finding the net.
The team is targeting a ninth AFCON final appearance and a second consecutive final in the nation’s history. Head coach Eric Chelle will however be without captain Wilfred Ndidi, who is suspended after receiving a second yellow card in the quarter final victory over Algeria.
Morocco have also enjoyed a strong campaign, winning four of their last five matches. Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz has been their key man, scoring five goals in five consecutive games. The hosts boast the best defensive record at the tournament, having conceded just once.
Morocco will be without midfielder Azzedine Ounahi due to injury, while Nigeria are hoping to redeem their runner up finish at the last AFCON and push one step closer to continental glory.
