Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over allegations including assault and resisting arrest.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arraignment, stating that the singer was arrested and remanded in custody on Monday. Portable’s arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing him shirtless, handcuffed and tearfully pleading while seated in a police holding area.
The prosecution alleged that Portable assaulted actress and skit maker Omobolarinde Akinyanju, also known as Ashabi Simple, who is reportedly the mother of two of his children. The incident allegedly occurred at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day and involved police officers and other individuals. Other alleged victims named in the charge sheet include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.
The charges also include the alleged theft of a Mercedes Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, linked to car dealer Wally Dex Auto. During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified, while the singer’s alleged primary victim was absent. The prosecution further claimed that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, during official duties.
The presiding judge declined to grant bail, noting that the allegedly assaulted officer must be present in court before considering the application. Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody and the bail hearing was adjourned to January 19.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a separate viral video allegedly showing Portable being assaulted while in custody.
