The Nigerian Ports Authority has announced that thirty two vessels carrying petroleum products and essential food items are expected to arrive at Lagos ports in the coming days, in a move aimed at stabilising supply and easing pressure on prices.
According to the authority, the vessels are scheduled to berth at Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, delivering petrol diesel and cooking gas alongside bulk shipments of rice wheat and other staples. Officials said the development would help address recent supply disruptions caused by logistical challenges and foreign exchange constraints.
The NPA assured stakeholders that port operations have been strengthened to ensure faster clearance, including extended working hours and improved coordination with customs and terminal operators. Transport unions have also been advised to maintain orderly movement of trucks to prevent gridlock around port corridors.
Economists say the expected arrivals could provide short term relief for consumers facing high fuel and food costs, but they caution that long term stability will depend on sustained investment in domestic refining and agricultural production.
