Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future despite current economic and security challenges, while former governor Jonah Jang has denied reports that he asked the sitting governor to resign.
Speaking at a public forum in Jos, Mutfwang said the country is undergoing a difficult but necessary transition, adding that sustained reforms in governance and accountability would eventually yield positive results. He urged citizens to remain patient and supportive of efforts to strengthen democratic institutions.
Meanwhile, Jang issued a statement rejecting claims that he called for Mutfwang’s resignation, describing the reports as false and politically motivated. He said his comments were taken out of context and reaffirmed his support for the current administration in Plateau State.
The exchange has sparked political debate within the state, with analysts interpreting it as part of ongoing power realignments ahead of future elections. Party leaders have appealed for unity, warning that internal divisions could weaken the state’s influence at the national level.
