The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video that appears to show controversial musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, being assaulted while in police custody.
The footage, which has circulated widely across social media platforms, shows the singer handcuffed, shirtless and visibly distressed while seated in what appears to be a police facility. In the video, he is seen pleading tearfully as voices believed to be those of police officers are heard in the background, sparking widespread public condemnation.
Reacting to the development, the command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Portable is currently in custody but strongly condemned the alleged assault captured in the footage.
Babaseyi stated that the police do not tolerate physical abuse of suspects or the recording and circulation of detainees while under investigation, stressing that such actions violate professional standards and human rights principles.
He disclosed that an internal probe had already been initiated to identify officers involved in the incident, assuring that anyone found culpable would be sanctioned in line with the law.
Portable’s arrest is linked to allegations of assault made by actress and skit maker Omobolarinde Akinyanju, also known as Ashabi Simple, who is the mother of one of the singer’s children.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 1, 2026, at a bar owned by the musician in Ogun State. Reports indicate that a disagreement over relationship status escalated into violence, with Ashabi accusing Portable of physical assault, seizure of phones and issuing threats.
The singer has since denied the allegations, reacting in a social media video in which he accused Ashabi of betrayal and criticised the legal action taken against him.
Police authorities said investigations into both the alleged assault and the viral video were ongoing.
