Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the semi finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday night after a commanding 2 0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech.
Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed the win and extended Nigeria’s impressive run in the tournament, setting up a last four clash against host nation Morocco, who edged Cameroon in their quarter final encounter.
The Eagles entered the match in high spirits following a dominant Round of 16 display against Mozambique and wasted little time asserting their authority. Nigeria controlled possession from the opening minutes, pressing aggressively and pinning Algeria deep in their own half.
Osimhen led the line with intensity, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams provided pace and movement in attack. Alex Iwobi dictated the tempo in midfield, linking play smoothly as Nigeria created several first half chances. Akor Adams came closest before the break, missing a clear opportunity, while Algeria relied heavily on goalkeeper Luca Zidane to stay in the contest.
Nigeria’s pressure finally paid off after the interval when Osimhen rose highest to power home a header and break the deadlock. The goal further tilted the momentum in Nigeria’s favour, with Wilfred Ndidi anchoring the midfield and cutting out Algerian counter attacks.
Akor Adams doubled the lead later in the second half, finishing calmly after being set up by Osimhen. Algeria attempted to respond through substitutions, but Nigeria’s defensive discipline ensured there was no way back.
The Super Eagles now turn their attention to Morocco, as they continue their quest for continental glory.
