The Bauchi Youth Parliament has rejected allegations linking Governor Bala Mohammed to terrorism financing, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
The group’s reaction followed the arraignment of the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, and three others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged terror financing offences.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Mohammad Idris, the body expressed concern over what it said was an attempt to tarnish the image of the governor through unsubstantiated allegations.
The parliament described efforts to associate Governor Mohammed with terrorism financing as false, reckless and unsupported by facts or law, warning that such narratives pose a threat to democratic stability and public confidence.
Idris said members of the Youth Parliament, representing young people from constituencies, emirates, local government areas and diverse communities across the state, found the allegation disturbing and dangerous.
According to him, Bauchi State has recorded relative peace and social stability under the current administration due to deliberate investments in security coordination, community engagement and proactive conflict prevention measures.
He said the government had consistently collaborated with security agencies, traditional institutions and grassroots stakeholders to safeguard lives and maintain harmony across the state.
The Speaker cautioned that linking a sitting governor, who bears constitutional responsibility for public safety, to terrorism financing could inflame tensions, create fear among residents and undermine ongoing security operations.
He added that beyond security concerns, such allegations could damage investor confidence and negatively affect the state’s economy.
The Youth Parliament called on authorities, the media, civil society groups and residents of Bauchi State to uphold due process, reject misinformation and protect democratic institutions.
