Students across Gombe State have praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya following the approval and establishment of two additional campuses of Gombe State University. The development has been widely described as a bold step toward expanding access to higher education and addressing long standing capacity challenges at the main university campus.
According to student leaders the creation of the new campuses will significantly reduce overcrowding at the main campus while opening opportunities for more young people to pursue tertiary education without leaving the state. They noted that many qualified candidates had previously been denied admission due to limited facilities and space.
The new campuses are expected to focus on specialized academic programs aligned with regional development needs including agriculture health sciences technology and education. Education stakeholders say this targeted approach will improve manpower development and better equip graduates for the job market.
Student union representatives commended the governor for prioritizing education despite economic constraints. They described the move as an investment in the future of the state and a demonstration of political will to develop human capital.
Officials of Gombe State University also welcomed the expansion noting that it would enhance research output improve staff deployment and attract partnerships. Community leaders in the host areas expressed optimism that the campuses would stimulate local economies through job creation and infrastructure development.
As preparations begin students have urged the government to ensure adequate funding staffing and facilities to maintain academic standards. Many believe the initiative will reposition Gombe as an emerging educational hub in the northeast.
