The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps Shehu Mohammed has ordered the prosecution of popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat also known as Peller following a viral video showing him livestreaming while driving.
The video which circulated widely on social media showed the influencer engaging with followers while operating a vehicle. The act reportedly ended in a road crash raising serious safety concerns.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide the FRSC described the incident as part of a growing trend of reckless behaviour by celebrities and content creators.
The Corps Marshal expressed concern that the pursuit of online attention is leading some influencers to deliberately flout traffic regulations endangering their lives and those of other road users.
He warned that the FRSC will not tolerate such behaviour regardless of social status or popularity. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing road safety laws without exception.
Road safety advocates have applauded the decision calling it a strong message against dangerous driving. They urged influencers to use their platforms responsibly.
The case is expected to set a precedent and discourage similar conduct among public figures.
