The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has demolished parts of River Park Estate in Abuja, defying a subsisting court order that had barred any action on the property while a legal dispute is ongoing.
Justice Mohammed Zubairu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jikwoyi-Kurudu had on September 17, 2025, granted an injunctive order restraining FCDA officials and associated agents from entering the estate or carrying out any demolitions pending the hearing of a suit filed by property developers Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd and Houses For Africa Nigeria Ltd against the authority and the FCT Minister.
Despite this, FCDA officers, backed by police and other security personnel, moved into the estate with bulldozers and pulled down multi-million-naira structures, residents said.
Affected homeowners and developers have condemned the action as a flagrant disregard for the rule of law, and legal representatives have signalled plans to return to court.
Residents also claimed they were not given adequate notice ahead of the demolition, intensifying fears of displacement and loss without due process. FCDA has yet to issue a public response to the demolition and the apparent breach of the court order.
