The Federal Government has approved the recruitment of more than ninety four thousand new security personnel in an expanded effort to contain rising insecurity across the country. The move follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a nationwide security emergency on November twenty six, 2025.
The Police Service Commission announced on Thursday that fifty thousand police constables would be enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force. The recruitment portal will open from December fifteen, 2025, to January twenty five, 2026. The Commission said applicants for the General Duty cadre must possess at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics, while Specialist applicants must present trade certifications and three years of practical experience.
A senior Army official said the Nigerian Army plans to recruit about fourteen thousand soldiers in line with the presidential directive. Although the Navy and Air Force have not released specific figures, officials confirmed that both services will increase their intakes.
In June, the Ministry of Interior began a separate recruitment of thirty thousand personnel across the paramilitary agencies, a process now being accelerated for deployment into critical areas.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, applauded the recruitment drive during his meeting with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa retired. He said Nigeria urgently needed additional manpower and called for a long term plan to meet the United Nations policing ratio.
Security analysts Brigadier General Peter Aro retired and Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi retired welcomed the expansion but warned that effective vetting, proper training and professionalism were essential to avoid compounding existing institutional weaknesses.
