To mark the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day, members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Management and Staff on Tuesday held an awareness walk around the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The event was attended by the NFF’s Desk Officer for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mallam Abdulrahman Maigari. He joined several NFF directors, including Dr Ademola Olajire (Director of Media & Communications), Ms Ruth David (Director of Competitions), Mr Barnabas Joro (Deputy Director, Protocol), Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman (Deputy Director, Competitions), and Hajia Amina Daura (Head of Women’s Football), along with other senior officials.
Barrister Queen Otarakpo, Head of the NFF’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), highlighted the significance of the day. She noted that International Anti-Corruption Day serves as a reminder that corruption is not only a legal offence but also a major obstacle to national development, institutional credibility and public confidence.
She emphasised:
“Our organisation stands at the forefront of this fight. As the ACTU, we are committed to fostering a culture where integrity is essential, transparency is expected, and accountability is shared by all.
“Corruption thrives where people remain silent. Today, we choose to speak up. We choose honesty over shortcuts, service over selfishness, and responsibility over neglect. By maintaining ethical standards in our duties, we strengthen this institution and contribute to building a fair and just nation.”
Maigari reiterated that the ICPC’s three mandates are enlightenment, prevention and prosecution. He stressed that enlightenment and prevention are particularly crucial and commended the NFF for its active role in promoting anti-corruption practices.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi (MON), praised the ACTU for organising the awareness walk and for consistently involving the ICPC Desk Officer in its activities.
He added that many people are unaware that everyday actions can fall under corrupt practices, noting that sensitisation efforts like this help guide individuals and institutions. Sanusi applauded the ACTU’s leadership for their commitment, diligence and sense of duty.
