The 8th Division of the Nigerian Army has neutralised notorious bandit commander Kachalla Kallamu in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, a development the military described as “a significant victory” in the fight against terrorism and banditry in the Northwest.
A military source told newsmen on Tuesday that Kallamu, a trusted lieutenant of infamous terror leader Bello Turji, was eliminated alongside one of Turji’s top logistics suppliers during a coordinated operation in the early hours of Monday around Kurawa village. The mission disrupted a critical supply chain sustaining terror activities in the region.
Kallamu, a native of Garin-Idi in Sabon Birni, had long terrorised residents in the eastern Sokoto corridor, causing mass displacements and widespread insecurity. He resurfaced in the area after fleeing military operations in June 2025, reportedly seeking refuge in Kogi State to evade capture.
The military source praised local communities for providing actionable intelligence that strengthened the success of the operation, emphasising that continued cooperation remains vital to defeating terrorism.
Residents of Sabon Birni have expressed relief following the operation, with many describing it as long-awaited justice for victims of banditry. The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, reportedly joined citizens in celebrating the outcome.
The operation underscores the army’s resolve to tackle banditry and terror networks in the Northwest, sending a strong message that criminal activities will not go unpunished.
