Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has attracted interest from several European clubs following his strong displays for Wolfsberger, according to Soccernet.ng.
The 22-year-old joined the Austrian side from Enyimba in September 2024 and has made notable progress since then. He has already played 45 matches for Wolfsberger, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
Nwaiwu has been one of the standout performers in the Austrian Bundesliga over the past year and played a crucial role in Wolfsberger’s OFB Cup triumph last season. His form has drawn attention from clubs across Europe’s top five leagues, including Paris Saint-Germain, Bayer Leverkusen, Lens and Leeds United. Despite this, a transfer in the near future appears unlikely.
Wolfsberger Intend to Keep Nwaiwu
According to Footy Africa, while Nwaiwu is on the shortlist of numerous major European clubs, Wolfsberger are determined to retain him until at least next summer.
The Austrian outfit have reportedly ruled out any January transfer window negotiations for the defender, viewing him as an essential part of their squad.
Wolfsberger are confident in their position as the former Enyimba and Heartland player still has around two years remaining on his contract. By the end of next summer, he will have only one year left on his current deal. Transfermarkt currently values him at €7 million, a price many of his suitors would consider reasonable.
If the Nigerian continues to perform at his current level, a move to a top European club next summer appears highly likely.
