A key witness referred to as Witness D, who has since been reported slain, previously gave a crucial testimony before the Madlanga Commission alleging that Julius Mkhwanazi instructed a group to dispose of a body connected to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Witness D had appeared before the commission as part of a broader inquiry into organised criminal networks and alleged abuses of authority. His testimony detailed how he and others were directed to remove and conceal a victims remains during a covert operation.
According to transcripts, the witness claimed that the instruction came directly from Mkhwanazi, a figure suspected of involvement in several high profile security related controversies. The testimony suggested a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice and destroy evidence.
Shortly after his appearance, Witness D was reported dead under unclear circumstances, triggering alarm among investigators and rights groups. His death has raised questions about witness safety and the possible involvement of individuals seeking to silence key testimonies.
The commission has expressed concern over the incident and has requested increased protection for remaining witnesses. Security analysts say the killing may indicate the presence of a coordinated effort to derail the inquiry.
Authorities continue to investigate the allegations as well as the circumstances of Witness D’s death
