The founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, on Wednesday said he would help facilitate the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, if operators of Radio Biafra and supporters of the sit at home order halt their activities.
Maharaj Ji made the declaration during an interview on his temple’s in house radio station, where he described Kanu as culpable of the terrorism charges levelled against him under Nigerian law.
According to him, the nature of the accusations against the IPOB leader ordinarily attracts the death penalty under the constitution, adding that Kanu had only escaped such fate by grace.
“We are grateful that the matter has been put on hold. By the nature of the accusations, the punishment is always death, looking at how the constitution is written. Anyone accused of terrorism is sentenced to death. It is only by grace that Kanu escaped it,” he said.
Maharaj Ji stressed that Kanu’s release could only come through political settlement and not emotional appeals, insisting that those advocating his freedom must take concrete steps toward peace.
“For anyone advocating for his pardon, they must not come with empty hands. They should stop the Biafra radio wherever it is. Secondly, the sit at home order must stop. The judgment should be accepted, while Igbo elders go behind the scenes to explain things to the President,” he said.
He further claimed that President Bola Tinubu had brought the Igbo people into the central realm of national politics, a development he said had caused discontent in some northern quarters.
“Today, the Igbos have been brought to the central realms of politics by Tinubu, and the Northern caliphate is not happy about it. They are not excited about the commission they were given. They should stop the propaganda that the East is about to be Islamised,” he added.
The spiritual leader concluded that once the conditions are met, he would personally facilitate Kanu’s release.
“When those things are done, I know how to watch it out. Kanu will come out. I will help facilitate his release,” Maharaj Ji said.
