The Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has confirmed that the first-ever Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival will hold from 16–17 December 2025 at the Cricket Pitch, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The Minister, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., disclosed this in Abuja during a media briefing on Tuesday. She explained that the event, organised in partnership with Irabor Creative Minds, is designed to spotlight Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage and vibrant creative expression.
Musawa described the festival as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to using art, culture, and tourism as tools for economic development, employment creation and national cohesion.
“Detty December is a well-known cultural season that began in Lagos, and the federal government will offer full support to make this edition safe, colourful, and culturally enriching for both international visitors and lovers of creativity,” she said.
The Minister noted that Lagos was selected as the host city because of its long-standing reputation as a centre of cultural and creative excellence.
“This will be an even bigger Detty December. Our vision is for the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival to grow into a major cultural showcase that draws visitors from across the world to experience Nigeria’s unique traditions,” she added.
Musawa also thanked President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his leadership and continued support for the cultural sector. She acknowledged the ministry’s partners and sponsors and encouraged Nigerians to attend.
The Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Irabor Creative Minds, Jude Irabor Uwagbai, assured the public that security arrangements are firmly in place. He said the team is working closely with the Lion Building Police Division in Lagos to guarantee a safe atmosphere throughout the festival.
“We are collaborating with Lagos State’s Lion Building Police to ensure the safety of everyone. We are inviting the world to Lagos to experience Nigerian culture,” Uwagbai said.
