Security operatives in Katsina State have successfully prevented a suspected bandit operation along the Kandawa to Dankar road in Batsari Local Government Area, recovering two AK 47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition and a Boxer motorcycle.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq. He said the suspects were intercepted while attempting to block the road to launch an attack on motorists and residents.
The incident occurred on November 29, 2025, at about 10 am after a distress report was received at the Batsari Divisional Police Headquarters. Acting swiftly on the information, police officers mobilised to the scene where they engaged the armed suspects in a brief exchange of gunfire.
The suspects were forced to retreat into the bush as a result of the superior response from the operatives. A search of the area after the operation led to the recovery of two AK 47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects.
DSP Sadiq said investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle their criminal network. He assured that the Command would keep the public informed as progress is made.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commended the officers for their courage and timely intervention. He urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist the security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
