President Bola Tinubu has forwarded to the Senate a list of 32 nominees for ambassadorial appointments, including a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, and a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani Kayode.
Also on the list are two former governors linked to the defunct G 5 group and loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. They are the former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and the former Governor of Abia State, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu.
In two separate letters addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu requested the upper chamber to consider and confirm 15 nominees as career ambassadors and 17 as non career ambassadors. This came days after he submitted an earlier batch of three names for the same positions.
Of the 15 nominees on the career ambassadors list, four are women, while six women appear on the non career list.
Among the non career nominees are Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia State, Reno Omokri from Delta State, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Others include Professor Nora Ladi Daduut, a former senator from Plateau State, Otunba Femi Pedro, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Tasiu Musa Maigari, Yakubu N Gambo, a former UBEC deputy executive secretary, and Chief Femi Fani Kayode from Osun State.
Also nominated are former Oyo First Lady Fatima Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo State, and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Holy See, Paul Oga Adikwu from Benue State.
