The Federal Capital Territory Administration has revoked the 13 kilometre Apo to Karshi road contract earlier awarded to Kakatar Engineering Limited since 2011 and reassigned the project to SCC.
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this on Thursday after inspecting ongoing road projects in Karu, Gishiri and the dualisation of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja.
Wike said the decision was taken to fast track the completion of the long abandoned road project, noting that work had already commenced under the new contractor.
He explained that the completion of the Apo to Karshi road would serve as an alternative route and significantly decongest the existing main road, thereby easing traffic for residents of Nyanya, Karu and surrounding communities travelling to the city centre.
The minister recalled that the project was awarded as far back as 2011 but suffered prolonged delays due to funding constraints and other challenges.
According to him, the FCTA would no longer allow political considerations to hinder infrastructure delivery that directly affects the welfare of residents.
Wike also revealed that the construction of the Kubwa to Bwari road, equally awarded to SCC, had commenced and would provide another major alternative route when completed.
Speaking on the inspected projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, stating that the projects were on track for completion and inauguration in mid 2026 to mark President Bola Tinubu third year in office.
He added that the excitement and positive reactions from residents and students in Karu and Gishiri reflected the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda on infrastructure development in the FCT.
