The Diocese of Kaduna of the Anglican Communion has announced the death of The Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest in Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, who reportedly died while in the custody of his abductors.
The development has led to the cancellation of the much anticipated Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme earlier scheduled by the Diocese.
The sad news was made public through a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Diocese. According to the statement, the late priest was kidnapped on October 28, 2025, alongside his wife and daughter.
The Diocese described his death as a profound loss to the Church, the clergy and the entire Christian community that benefitted from his ministry and spiritual leadership.
In the statement, the Diocese paid glowing tribute to the departed cleric, noting that his faithful service, humble spirit and unwavering devotion to God would remain a lasting legacy.
Church authorities also confirmed that prayers are ongoing for the safe release of his wife and daughter, who are still being held by the kidnappers as of the time of filing this report.
In honour of the late priest and in view of the tragic development, the Diocese officially announced the cancellation of the Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme.
The statement concluded with prayers and words of consolation to the family of the deceased, the congregation and all those affected by the incident.
The killing of the Anglican priest adds to the growing concerns over insecurity and the continued targeting of religious leaders across parts of the country.
