Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and ex Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has strongly condemned the recent bandit attacks on Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State, which left three persons dead and several women and children abducted.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his former Chief of Staff and ex Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the attacks as tragic and deeply distressing. He said the violent raids represent a direct assault on communal peace and social stability. He condoled with the affected families and communities and urged all stakeholders to provide urgent support to the victims.
Ganduje called on the Kano State Government to adopt proactive, intelligence driven and community based security strategies to curb the growing threat. He advised the government to draw from security measures implemented during his administration between 2015 and 2023, which included strengthened vigilance groups, community policing, intelligence sharing and close coordination between security agencies.
The former APC chairman also praised the governments of Niger, Kwara and Kebbi states for their handling of similar security challenges. He commended President Bola Tinubu for ongoing efforts to modernise the armed forces and strengthen the national security framework, describing the initiatives as a reflection of strong political will.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Command has intensified security across the state following a viral social media video alleging an impending bandit attack on Ekiti State University and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education in Ikere Ekiti. The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, said security has been tightened around border communities, schools, worship centres and other strategic locations.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed that investigations revealed the video was generated using Artificial Intelligence to cause panic. He urged residents to disregard the rumour and report any suspicious activity to the police.
Also, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, dismissed reports of a bandit attack on a farmstead in his community, assuring residents that security agents and local vigilantes remain fully deployed.
