Soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have intercepted a significant drug courier transporting a large consignment of cannabis from Ekiti State to Obajana in Kogi State. The interception occurred on Monday during a routine check in the Agbede Response Area.

According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, troops stopped a Toyota Camry (registration DKA 158AU) after noticing a suspicious display of a police cap and belt on the dashboard. The driver, identified as Johnson Ayo, raised further suspicion with his demeanour.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, soldiers uncovered 10 large sacks containing Cannabis Sativa, which weighed a total of 108.8 kilograms. Lieutenant Abdullahi indicated that such large-scale drug transportations help sustain criminal networks and may fuel banditry in Kogi and neighbouring states.

The Army handed the arrested driver and the seized cannabis over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution. Abdullahi emphasised that the operation underscores the military’s ongoing commitment to countering organized crime, leveraging both patrols and intelligence-gathering to disrupt illicit activities in the region.
