The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it remains fully capable of winning the 2027 general elections even without having any serving governors in its ranks. The party’s National Vice Chairman, Senator Nazif Gamawa, made the statement on Monday while speaking with journalists in Bauchi.
Gamawa argued that the absence of sitting governors would not weaken the party’s electoral prospects, recalling that former President Muhammadu Buhari once defeated an incumbent president without the backing of any governors. According to him, Nigerians are yearning for a fresh political alternative, and the ADC is positioning itself as the solution.
“The people already believe that a new political movement is the option. ADC is the saviour. We are coming with one powerful blow,” he said.
The party chieftain dismissed speculations of internal crises within the ADC, urging politicians who feel marginalised or betrayed in their current parties to join the movement. He noted that while many political parties have priced nomination forms beyond the reach of ordinary citizens, the ADC will maintain affordability and openness.
“We will not be like them. Every well-meaning Nigerian will have a fair chance,” he assured.
Gamawa, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed confidence that the ADC leadership is committed to restructuring the party for national success. He appealed to citizens—especially young people—to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the coming elections, warning that failure to vote wisely will perpetuate bad governance.
He further lamented that Nigeria’s political space has been captured by a small elite, stressing the ADC’s commitment to mentoring young leaders and restoring inclusive governance.
