The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state following rising security concerns that officials say pose significant risks to students, teachers, and learning environments.
The directive, announced on Sunday, affects every category of educational institution—including public and private primary, secondary, and tertiary schools, as well as Federal Government–owned institutions operating within the state.
The order was conveyed in a statement issued by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman. He explained that the government’s decision followed broad consultations with relevant stakeholders and a careful assessment of what he described as “overwhelming security concerns affecting school communities.”
Usman noted that although shutting down schools was a difficult choice, it became necessary to prioritise the safety of children and educational personnel.
“This decision, though difficult, was taken after extensive consultations in response to overwhelming security concerns. The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause,” he said. “However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.”
He appealed to parents, guardians, school owners, and other stakeholders to remain calm and supportive as the state works to address the security challenges. According to the Ministry, efforts are already underway to stabilise the situation so that academic activities can resume as soon as it is safe.
