Four of the six female directors of the Ministry of Defence, abducted in Kogi State nearly two weeks ago, have regained their freedom after reportedly trekking through dense forests from Kogi to Kaduna State. The senior officials were kidnapped on Monday, 10 November 2025, along the Kabba–Lokoja highway while traveling from Lagos to Abuja to attend a Directorate-level promotion course and examination.

The victims include Mrs. Ngozi Ibeziakor, Mrs. C. Helen Ezeakor, Mrs. C.A. Ladoye, Mrs. Catherine O. Essien, Mrs. C.A. Emeribe, and Mrs. J.A. Onwuzurike. According to an unverified source, the four rescued women endured nearly two weeks of harsh conditions, covering long distances on foot through forested areas with minimal food, water, or rest. They are currently undergoing medical evaluations to address the physical strain and trauma suffered during captivity.

Tragically, the source claims that Mrs. C.A. Emeribe and Mrs. J.A. Onwuzurike did not survive, reportedly succumbing to exhaustion during the ordeal. While the Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Brigadier General Samaila, was not immediately available for comment, security sources described the abduction as a “well-coordinated attack,” underscoring the ongoing security challenges along major highways.

The incident sparked outrage within the Ministry of Defence and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN). The association reiterated its long-standing call for promotion examinations to be conducted within states rather than requiring public service employees to travel long distances, which exposes them to significant security risks.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction, bring the perpetrators to justice, and prevent similar attacks against public officials in the future.
