The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a man allegedly involved in supplying and repairing firearms for bandit groups operating within the state. The suspect, whose identity has not been fully disclosed, reportedly confessed to providing critical logistical support to criminal networks, including fixing weapons to ensure they remained operational for illicit activities.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, the arrest is part of a broader security crackdown targeting individuals who supply arms, food, and other essential items to bandits hiding in remote forest camps. The police emphasized that dismantling these supply chains is critical to reducing the frequency and intensity of attacks on communities across Kwara State. Tactical units, including SWAT, IRT, SIS, and STS, have been deployed to reinforce ongoing security operations and to prevent further infiltration by bandit networks.
In a related incident, a 36-year-old motorbike rider from Patigi town was intercepted while transporting food, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, and drugs to suspected bandit hideouts. The rider admitted he was hired by the bandits to deliver supplies to their camps. Both cases highlight the increasing sophistication of logistics networks that enable criminal groups to sustain operations in remote areas.
The arrested individuals have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation. Security officials have urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement and report suspicious activities. With the Yuletide season approaching, authorities have intensified joint patrols, including air surveillance, to curb banditry and ensure the safety of residents across Kwara State.
