The Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up for a crucial clash against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff semi-final, set for Thursday at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.

Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to field a formidable starting lineup featuring Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze in attack as the team looks to claim a decisive win and move one step closer to World Cup qualification.

Nigeria, three-time African champions, are determined to bounce back after missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. With Osimhen in excellent form and the experienced duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi controlling the midfield, the Super Eagles are confident of delivering a strong performance.

Probable Lineup

Nwabali (GK); Frederick, Ekong (c), Bassey, Onyemaechi; Chukwueze, Ndidi, Iwobi, Simon; Lookman, Osimhen.

Nigeria’s superior squad depth and attacking options make them favourites going into the fixture. However, Gabon, led by veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, bring experience and discipline that could test the Eagles’ resolve.

A victory on Thursday would see Nigeria advance to the playoff final on November 16, where they are set to face the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo. The winner of that tie will proceed to the Intercontinental Playoffs, moving a step closer to securing a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
