Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bayern Munich 5-4 in a breathtaking UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday, in what has become the highest-scoring match at this stage of the competition.
The electrifying encounter at the Parc des Princes saw Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele each score twice, delivering a sensational performance for the French champions.
Bayern took the lead early through a penalty converted by Harry Kane, but PSG responded swiftly as Kvaratskhelia equalised before Joao Neves headed the hosts in front. Michael Olise brought Bayern level again, only for Dembele to restore PSG’s advantage with a penalty just before halftime, making it 3-2.
The second half continued at a frantic pace. Kvaratskhelia and Dembele extended PSG’s lead to 5-2, putting the hosts in firm control. However, Bayern mounted a late comeback, with Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz scoring to reduce the deficit to 5-4.
Despite the late pressure, PSG held on to secure a narrow advantage heading into the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week.
The match lived up to expectations as both sides showcased their attacking strength. PSG, under coach Luis Enrique, are aiming to retain the Champions League title, while Bayern, managed by Vincent Kompany, are seeking a return to the final for the first time since 2020.
With a place in the final in Budapest at stake, the tie remains finely balanced, setting up a decisive and highly anticipated second leg in Germany.
