The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has commended Lieutenant Ibrahim Yerima, the naval officer who recently clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during a public altercation in Abuja.
Speaking through his media aide on Tuesday, Badaru described Yerima as a “disciplined and courageous officer” who acted in accordance with military protocol and professionalism. The Defence Minister said the Nigerian Armed Forces would continue to support officers who demonstrate integrity and commitment in the line of duty.
Badaru also urged Nigerians to respect uniformed officers while performing their official assignments, emphasizing that the military remains a symbol of national unity and discipline.
His remarks come days after a viral video showed an exchange between Wike and Lt. Yerima during a traffic stop near the Abuja city centre, sparking mixed public reactions.
The Defence Minister’s statement appears to calm tensions surrounding the incident and reaffirms the government’s confidence in its officers’ professionalism.
