At least seven people were reported to have been killed by suspected armed herders at Channel One community, a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The community, according to a resident, is located along the Arufu-Wukari road in Taraba State.

The resident, who simply identified himself as Amos, told journalists in a telephone interview on Monday that the incident occurred on Sunday night.

According to him, the suspected herders invaded the community at about 11 pm and shot sporadically, forcing residents to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.

A community leader in the area, Joseph Anawah, corroborated the account, confirming that six people were killed during the attack. He listed the deceased as Akor Gwakyaa, Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, and Msughter Terzungwe.

Anawah added that several others sustained serious injuries and were taken to medical facilities in Anyiin and Ugba towns for treatment. He further noted that about seven victims were in critical condition.

He alleged that the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and were heavily armed. According to him, the assailants are suspected to be linked to a group camped in Shaor, a deserted settlement previously identified in intelligence reports as a hideout for armed elements in the area.

“The Fulani attackers came in large numbers, armed with firearms, and were on motorcycles,” he said, calling for coordinated security operations to dislodge suspected camps in border communities.

He also appealed to both state and federal governments to strengthen joint security efforts across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states in order to monitor cross-border movements and prevent further attacks.

Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav, also confirmed the incident, stating that seven people were killed and four others injured during the Sunday night invasion.

“They came, attacked and ran back to where they came from,” he said, adding that he had already briefed security authorities, including the Commissioner of Police and the state Homeland Security Adviser.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received an official report on the attack but promised to revert once details were confirmed.

The latest incident adds to a recent wave of violent attacks in Benue State, where several communities have suffered repeated killings, kidnappings, and displacement of residents in recent days.
