President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with the United Kingdom, as British Airways celebrates 90 years of continuous operations in the country.

Speaking at a commemorative event marking the milestone, Tinubu described the long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the UK as one built on shared history, trade, and mutual cooperation. He noted that the presence of British Airways in Nigeria for nearly a century reflects the enduring ties between both nations.

The President emphasized that his administration remains committed to improving the business environment, expanding foreign investment opportunities, and deepening bilateral relations with strategic partners such as the United Kingdom. He added that aviation remains a critical sector in achieving Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.

According to him, efforts are underway to modernize infrastructure, improve regulatory efficiency, and enhance air travel safety and connectivity across the country. He stressed that a more efficient aviation sector would boost tourism, trade, and job creation.

British Airways officials at the event expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s role as a key African destination in the airline’s global network. They highlighted the resilience of their operations in the country despite global industry challenges, noting that Nigeria remains one of their most important markets on the continent.

They also reiterated the airline’s commitment to continued investment in customer service, operational efficiency, and long-term partnership with Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Industry stakeholders present at the ceremony described the 90-year milestone as a reflection of deep commercial and diplomatic relations between both countries. They called for further collaboration in aviation development, including training, technology transfer, and infrastructure upgrades.

The event also featured discussions on improving passenger experience, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and expanding connectivity between Nigeria and international destinations.

Tinubu concluded by expressing optimism that Nigeria–UK relations would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead, driven by mutual respect, shared economic interests, and increased cooperation in key sectors such as aviation, trade, and investment.
