Donald Trump has ordered the United States Navy to destroy any vessel found laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions over one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes.
In a post shared on Thursday, Trump warned that there would be no hesitation in targeting such boats, which he described as a direct threat to global shipping and energy security.
“I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be… that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.
“There is to be no hesitation. Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now,” he added.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical passage for global oil shipments, and any disruption to traffic in the area is often seen as a major trigger for international energy and security concerns.
