The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that approximately 3.7 million Nigerians successfully registered during the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise. The Independent National Electoral Commission commonly abbreviated as INEC is responsible for organising and conducting elections in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the registration figures reflect growing public interest in the electoral process ahead of future elections.

The Continuous Voter Registration exercise allows eligible citizens to register as voters, update their details or replace lost or damaged voter cards.

Observers note that the high turnout demonstrates increasing awareness of civic responsibilities among Nigerians, particularly among young people.

Stakeholders, including civil society organisations, have commended INEC for expanding access to registration centres and improving the process through digital integration.

However, some concerns have been raised about logistical challenges experienced in certain areas, including network issues and delays.

Electoral experts emphasise that voter registration is a critical component of democratic participation and must be conducted transparently.

The development underscores the importance of inclusive electoral processes in strengthening democracy.

Analysts believe that sustained voter engagement will play a key role in shaping the credibility and outcome of future elections.
