The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the Federal Government’s recently released list of alleged terrorism sponsors, describing it as misleading and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the publication was a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and discredit its agitation for self-determination. IPOB, led by Nnamdi Kanu, argued that the list lacks credibility and reflects what it called a pattern of political targeting.

The group accused the Nigerian government of hypocrisy in its approach to terrorism, alleging that authorities have failed to adequately address violence against civilians while branding separatist movements as security threats. It maintained that its activities are rooted in peaceful advocacy and should not be equated with acts of terrorism.

IPOB also referenced historical grievances in Nigeria’s South-East, pointing to past conflicts and alleged human rights violations as evidence of longstanding injustice against the Igbo people. According to the group, these issues continue to fuel its demand for self-determination.

“The struggle for justice, dignity, and self-determination is not a crime,” the statement read, insisting that efforts to label the movement as terror-related would not deter its campaign.

The group further alleged that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, remains in unlawful detention, describing his treatment as part of a broader attempt to silence dissenting voices. It reiterated that no amount of political pressure or public designation would weaken its resolve.

IPOB urged the international community to disregard what it described as misinformation, maintaining that its movement is peaceful and grounded in fundamental human rights advocacy. It stressed that its push for Biafra remains “non-negotiable.”

The statement concluded by affirming that the group’s agitation would persist despite government actions, declaring that its pursuit of justice would continue until its objectives are achieved.
