The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has congratulated its newly elected state executives and chairmen following the peaceful conduct of its congresses across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the exercise as a clear demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.
The ADC announced that the formal inauguration of the newly elected officials will take place on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be communicated by the National Working Committee (NWC). It urged the officials to remain committed to the party’s ideals and align with the leadership direction of its National Chairman, David Mark, as they assume office.
According to the statement, party members and stakeholders displayed maturity and discipline throughout the congresses, reinforcing the ADC’s vision of building a credible political alternative for Nigerians.
Ahead of its national convention, the party also constituted a 22-member National Convention Central Coordination Committee. The committee is chaired by former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, with former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, serving as Vice Chairman, while Ajuji Ahmed is Secretary.
Other prominent members include Emeka Ihedioha, Emeka Nwajuba, Solomon Lalong, and retired Commissioner of Police, Tajudeen Bakare, among others.
The central committee will be supported by 339 members across 11 sub-committees, including Legal and Convention Processes, Programmes and Events, Medical, Entertainment, Protocol, Welfare, New Media, Delegates and Accreditation, Finance, Media and Publicity, Venue, and Security.
Key appointments include Olumide Akpata as Chairman of the Legal Committee, Victor Umeh heading Programmes and Events, Tony Nwoye leading the Medical team, and Enyinnaya Abaribe chairing the Entertainment Committee.
Despite ongoing tensions with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ADC reaffirmed its decision to proceed with its planned national convention. The party accused INEC of misinterpreting a Court of Appeal directive and overstepping its supervisory role.
The party further disclosed that the David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola-led NWC has approached the court seeking to nullify INEC’s stance and compel the commission to restore its leadership details on the official portal.
The ADC maintained that internal disputes should not disrupt democratic processes, insisting that all its actions remain in full compliance with the law as it moves ahead with its convention activities.
